An international design competition will be held for the relocation of the Jinju National Museum.
The Jinju National Museum, which opened on the site of Jinju Castle in 1994, has problems with deteriorating facilities, but its location in a historic site has limited to carry out repairs. Since 2019, the museum has a plan to relocate to the site in conjunction with the former Jinju Station railroad site as a regeneration project. The total area of the complex will be 42,077m², of which the museum will occupy 20,000m².
The new museum aims to become a ‘low-threshold museum’ that citizens of Jinju can encounter in their daily lives and easily approach. In addition, in line with recent trends, the museum will provide complex services by strengthening education and collection functions in addition to exhibition purposes, and securing enough space for various age of groups, especially children.
The project received final approval for the feasibility study from the Ministry of Strategy and Finance in June 2022, confirming the total project cost and scale. After conducting this design competition, the construction will begin in 2024, and the museum will open in 2027.
