Thessaloniki is a historic city that has developed through the ages. Thessaloniki’s west waterfront area, where the city harbor is located, is used to be a manufacturing zone and is today an underused urban area. It weakens the city’s image, livability, and productivity. Several past initiatives to facilitate the change towards urban growth and productivity have not been successful. So, the challenge remains.
The ArXellence 2 Architectural Ideas Competition thus represents a major challenge of urban regeneration. Participants are invited to interpret the aims of the competition in the most creative way, the end objective being the image of a new CBD of Thessaloniki. Participants are encouraged to freely formulate their proposal, distributing the desired functions up to a maximum gross building floor area of 400,000m2. Spatial organisation, aesthetics, choice of materials, incorporation of environmental and social sustainability measures, particularly evidence that the UN SDG’s have been taken into account, are factors that will reinforce the primary aim. It is hoped that visionary competition schemes will pave the way for the regeneration of this decaying urban area through local government initiatives and private sector participation.
This competition is endorsed by the International Union of Architects (UIA) and will be conducted according to the UNESCO Standard Regulations for International Competitions in Architecture and Town Planning and the UIA best practice recommendations.
수 세기에 걸친 역사를 품은 테살로니키는 그리스 테르마이코스만에 자리한 해안 도시다. 이곳 대표 항구가 자리한 서쪽 해안은 한때 공장 지대였던 곳으로, 아직 정체된 채 제대로 활용되지 못하고 있다. 그렇다 보니 도시 이미지는 물론 살기 좋은 조건이나 생산성에 좋지 않은 영향을 미친다. 이 일대를 활성화하려는 여러 움직임이 있었지만 성공적인 결과를 보지 못한 탓에 이번 공모전을 기획하게 됐다.
ArXellence 2 건축 설계 아이디어 공모전은 도시 재생을 주제로 한다. 참가자는 독창적인 방식으로 공모전의 취지를 풀이해서 테살로니키의 해안가에 들어설 새 중심업무지구 계획안을 제출해야 한다. 건축 면적 최대 400,000 m2 내에서 자유롭게 계획하면 되고, 국제 연합에서 선정한 지속 가능 개발 목표에 부합하는 공간 구성, 심미성, 재료 선택, 환경적∙사회적 지속 가능성에 초점을 맞춰야 한다. 현지 공공 기관의 협조와 개인 참가자들의 아이디어가 모여 쇠퇴하는 도시 지역을 재생할 방법을 모색하는 기회가 되기를 바란다.
이 공모전은 국제 건축가 연맹이 승인한 공모전으로, 유네스코 규정을 준수한 국제 건축 공모 방식으로 진행된다.
1. Eligibility
– The competition is open to architects from all countries. Eligible architects must be entitled to practice architecture in their respective countries.
– Participants may be natural persons, legal entities or partnerships of individuals.
– Multidisciplinary teams may participate on condition that they are headed by an architect.
Competitors of any discipline can only participate in one team.
– The Competition is not open to students.

3. Submission
– Two A0 landscape-orientated presentation plates (minimum 300 dpi).
– The first A0(a) presentation plate is to include one 1:1000 (metric) scale Plan. For the other (Elevations, sections, three-dimensional color views of the proposal) each participant is free to decide.

1. 참가 자격
– 세계 어느 나라에서든 참가할 수 있다. 단, 각 나라에서 건축사 자격증을 취득한 자만 가능하다.
– 개인과 법인 사업자 또는 파트너십을 맺은 개인
– 여러 분야 출신이 포함된 팀의 경우 대표는 건축가가 되어야 한다. 참가자는 한 개의 팀만 구성할 수 있다.
