International Design Competition for Pedestrianizing Jamsu Bridge in Seoul

The Jamsu Bridge in Seoul will be transformed into the Han River’s first pedestrian bridge from a vehicle-centric transportation infrastructure. The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will hold a planning design competition to create Jamsu Bridge as a civic leisure and cultural space with a design-centric system.
The architectural design selected through the design competition will serve as the foundation for developing a comprehensive business plan. The purpose of the design competition is to encourage creative and innovative design for the designated facility. By emphasizing design considerations in the early planning stage, the competition aims to facilitate the development of a comprehensive business plan.
The design competition will select a total of eight teams to participate in the design competition for the priority projects, which is scheduled for the first half of 2024.


1. Eligibility
– Domestic and foreign experts in relevant fields such as urban planning, architecture, landscape design, cultural development, and structural engineering are eligible to participate (up to 3 people in case of joint application)

2. Overview
– Location: Jamsu Bridge area, 115-5 Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu ~ 287-3 Seobinggo-dong, Yongsan-gu
– Use: Pedestrian bridge (L=795m, B=18m)
– Design Cost: To be finalized after the planning design competition

3. Competition Schedule
– Registration: 7. 7(Fri)~8.29(Tue)
– Inquiries: 7.17(Mon)~21(Fri)
– Response: 7.28(Fri)
– Submission: 8.29(Tue)~30(Wed)
– Assessment: 9.12(Tue)
– Announcement: 9.13(Wed)

4. Submission Documents
– 2 Digital Panels (JPG, maximum size of 25~30MB per file)
– Representative image, site plan, floor plans, elevations, sections, perspectives, conceptual
drawings, other related images, and design concepts, etc.
– Design Description (PDF, A4, maximum of 20 sheets)
– Other forms and required documents

5. Jurors
– The list of juries will be announced on the competition website on August 30, 2023.

6. Prize
– Each of 8 winners will receive a reward of KRW 100,000,000.
