Bugye Arboretum ‘SaYuWon’
SaYuWon; Contemplations in a Mountainous Arboretum
Confucius once said that having the right name is the root of everything, and true to this wisdom, architect Seung, H-Sang named SaYuWon(思惟園) as a place for contemplation and meditation. Nestled in a secluded land between Palgongsan Mountain to the south and Dobongsan Mountain to the north, the arboretum is designed to let nature dominate. Here, architecture takes on a humble form, blending seamlessly with the landscape.
Buildings such as Hyeonam, Sadam, Myeongjeong, Wasa, and Cheomdan are scattered throughout the arboretum, harmonizing with the land as if they’ve always belonged. This is a place where the shifting seasons and the changing light of morning, afternoon, and evening reveal new landscapes, each imbued with its own beauty. A place to live poetically—a true SaYuWon.
